Privacy Policy for Maia

Maia ("Maia," "the app," "we," "us," or "our") is a personal wellness and emotional support app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices and rights you have. By downloading or using Maia, you agree to the practices described here.

A note on the personal nature of this app

Maia is designed to support you through an emotionally difficult time. Because of this, some of the information you choose to share with us — such as how you're feeling, details about a relationship or breakup, or private reflections — is deeply personal. We treat this as sensitive personal information and handle it with extra care, as described below.

Maia is not a medical device, a healthcare provider, or a substitute for professional care. We do not provide medical, psychological, or therapeutic diagnosis or treatment. If you are in distress or crisis, please contact a qualified professional or a local crisis support service.


1. Information we collect

Information you provide directly

When you set up and use Maia, you may share:

  • Onboarding responses — your answers to questions during setup (for example, what you're moving on from, how recently, what feels hardest, your goals, and your reasons for starting).
  • Your name or nickname, if you choose to provide it.
  • Daily check-ins and progress entries — how you're doing, mood or reflection inputs, and your responses within the daily loop.
  • Journal / vault entries — any private notes or reflections you write in the app's "vault" or similar private space.
  • Your goals and "non-negotiables" and any preferences you set.

You are never required to share more than you choose to. You can use much of the app without entering personal reflections.

Subscription and purchase information

If you subscribe to Maia, your payment is processed by Apple through the App Store using Apple's in-app purchase system. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements; RevenueCat may process a pseudonymous user identifier, your subscription/purchase events, and related transaction data so we know whether your subscription is active. Information collected automatically

When you use Maia, we (and our service providers) may automatically collect:

  • Device and technical information — device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, and a device or installation identifier.
  • Usage and diagnostic information — features used, in-app actions, crash logs, and performance data, used to keep the app working and improve it.

Notifications and widget

If you enable notifications or add the home screen widget, we use information about your progress and preferences to deliver reminders and display content. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.


2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the core functionality of Maia — your daily messages, check-ins, progress tracking, phases, streaks, and saved entries.
  • Personalize your experience based on your onboarding responses, goals, and preferences.
  • Process and manage your subscription and verify your access to paid features.
  • Send notifications and reminders you've enabled.
  • Maintain, secure, debug, and improve the app, including fixing crashes and understanding which features are used.
  • Communicate with you about important updates, support requests, or changes to the service.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use the personal reflections you write in the app to target advertising to you.


3. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in these limited situations:

  • Service providers who help us operate the app, under agreements that require them to protect your data. These currently include:
    • Apple (app distribution and in-app purchases)
    • RevenueCat (subscription management)
    • Supabase (data storage and infrastructure)
    • [ANALYTICS / CRASH-REPORTING TOOL, IF ANY]
  • Legal and safety reasons — if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or others.
  • Business transfers — if the app or our business is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

4. Where your data is stored and how we protect it

Cloud-stored: Your information is stored on secure servers operated by our hosting provider, [PROVIDER], located in [REGION]. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — such as encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your information.

No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.


5. How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the app to you. When you delete your account or the app [ADJUST TO MATCH YOUR DELETION FLOW], we delete or anonymize your personal information within [e.g., 30 days], except where we are required to retain certain records (for example, transaction records) to comply with legal obligations.


6. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, including the right to:

  • Access the information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your information ("right to erasure").
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
  • Data portability — receive a copy of your data in a usable format.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at admin@trymaia.app. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You can also delete most of your in-app data directly within the app's settings and manage your subscription through your Apple ID settings.

For users in India: We process personal data in accordance with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). You may contact us to exercise your rights under that law, and you have the right to grievance redressal.

For users in the European Economic Area / UK (GDPR): Our legal bases for processing are your consent, performance of our contract with you (providing the app), our legitimate interests in operating and improving the app, and compliance with legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

For users in California (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or "share" your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.


7. Children's privacy

Maia is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at admin@trymaia.app and we will delete it.


8. International data transfers

If you use Maia from outside India, your information may be processed in countries that have different data protection laws than your own. Where required, we take steps to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection.


9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Maia after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
